POLI.design is a zipper between university and industry, between polytechnic expertise and industrial competencies. This system involves lots of experts working passionately on design issues and their promotion. It is a flexible structure which aggregates the best available expertise in the university research, the demand of innovation coming from companies and professionals.
POLI.design is a Consortium of the Politecnico di Milano, established in 1999 by Alberto Seassaro, with the aim of advancing professionalism, research and creativity, giving new answers to the continuously evolving technological, productive and professional contexts. It is based in Milan, worldwidely known as the capital of design, fashion and Italian creativity. It is tied to Politecnico di Milano, the first university in Italy to have asserted the importance of the design discipline within the academic training, and to have initiated, in 1993, the first undergraduate course in Industrial Design.
POLI.design, together with the Design University and the Indaco Department (Department of Industrial Design, Arts, Communication and Fashion), is a part of the Design System of Politecnico di Milano.
The peculiarity of POLI.design is its expertise. In fact, the Consortium systematically involves the resources of the Politecnico's Faculties, integrating the architecture and engineering competencies with visiting lecturers, creating unusual combinations among the university, its practices and the market.
POLI.design bases its activity on three areas of excellence:
- the scientific and academic competencies represented by the Politecnico;
- the professional experience and the productive world, represented by the professionals and the Associations;
- the development of the human resources, through the involvement of training and recruitment experts.
