MC and CBC News anchor Diana Swain kicked off the night by thanking all who entered, as well as the competition\u2019s sponsors \u2013 Audi, Keilhauer, GE Monogram, George Brown College, AdBeast and v2comm.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sixty finalists were selected from over 600 submissions by a star-studded jury: architects\u00a0<strong>Imola B\u00e9rczi<\/strong>\u00a0of UNStudio and\u00a0<strong>Brigitte Shim<\/strong>\u00a0of Shim-Sutcliffe Architects, industrial designer<strong>Jeffrey Bernett<\/strong>\u00a0of Consultants for Design Strategy, interior designer\u00a0<strong>Elaine Cecconi<\/strong>\u00a0of Cecconi Simone, landscape architect\u00a0<strong>Jennifer Guthrie<\/strong>\u00a0of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol, and\u00a0<strong>Mike Kielhauer<\/strong>\u00a0of office systems manufacturer Keilhauer.\u00a0People\u2019s Choice awards were also designated, following weeks of online voting earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The submissions included beautifully functional and space-saving designs such as our\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><a title=\"New Logica System\" href=\"http:\/\/www.valcucine.com\/en\/cucine\/innovazioni\/5\/6:new_logica_system\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">New Logica kitchen system<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> and\u00a0<strong>Duravit<\/strong>\u2019s collapsible OpenSpace shower stall and luxurious yet sensible spaces including\u00a0<strong>Koji Tsutsui Architect<\/strong>\u2019s clustered residential rooms and\u00a0<strong>BNKR Arquitectura<\/strong>&#8216;s\u00a0stark funeral chapel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In concepts,\u00a0<strong>Mark Horton Architecture<\/strong>\u2019s sports training facility and a student-designed floating power plant took home trophies.\u00a0<strong>Patkau Architects\u00a0<\/strong>nabbed two honours for their lean, minimal skating shelters in Winnipeg and for the subterranean cottages proposed for the site of Frank Lloyd Wright\u2019s Fallingwater.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Winners and People\u2019s Choices for the 2012 AZ Awards are:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Best Furniture Design<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Winner:\u00a0Waver Chair by Konstantin Grcic for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vitra.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vitra<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">People\u2019s Choice: Piano Clothing Rack by Patrick Seha for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.feld.be\/\" target=\"_blank\">Feld<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Best Furniture Systems Design<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Winner &amp;
