Med In Italy third classified in the general ranking at Europe

Finally the Italian team MED IN ITALY, that hosted a Meccanica kitchen, won the third prize at the Europe competition. Med In Italy during the competition won even the gold medal in the Sustainability contest and two bronze medals (Architecture and Communication contests). kitchen played its role in every competition.
Meccanica by (engineered by Valcucine) is a furniture system with a light framework and an innovative made up of single structural elements that are connected together using mechanical joints. No glues are used which means there is no trace of formaldehyde: has been designed to be 90% reused and 100% recycled.

RHÔNE ALPES (FRANCE), is the winner of this edition of Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 and Andalucía Team (Spain) is the runners up in the general ranking. The French house proposes an urban scale project to answer current issues about density in the alpine corridor. They came up a“Nanotower” concept for this situation: small towers housing an individual house each floor. The top floor hosts a common laundry, a summer kitchen and a relaxing place for all community and gardens and storage boxes.

In this closing ceremony, the out of contest “Public choice Award” granted by KÖMMERLING was given to:  Andalucía Team, with Patio 2.12 was the most voted house by the Villa Solar visitors. EHU Team (País Vasco) on the other hand was the team with more online votes.

Finally, the Public Choice Award combining both votes was given to Andalucía Team.

The Villa Solar will remain opened, free of charge, one more day, to give the opportunity to last visit these innovative and awarded houses.

Solar Decathlon Europe is organized by the Ministry of Public Works, Madrid City Council and the Madrid Polytechnic University (UPM) via its Higher Technical School of Arquitecture (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid).
