In Chicago, a kitchen with magnetic appeal
In Chicago, Hermitage Residence exemplifies an extraordinary kitchen transformation, the result of a collaboration with Donna Mondi Interior Design.
The homeowners, eager to replace the standard builder-installed kitchen, chose a bold Valcucine design: a layout in deep black tones enriched with fine metal details. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light, turning it into a perfect stage to showcase its dramatic visual impact.
The result is a space of striking contrast and refinement—luxurious and sophisticated. The delicate balance between metal and glass, between opacity and transparency, creates a dialogue of materials and textures, amplifying the kitchen's dynamic and contemporary character.

At the heart of the project, the black Genius Loci composition commands attention with its angled Brass Metal drawer, slicing across the surface like a cut on a canvas. The doors of the New Logica Special Element in Glossy Black Vitrum reflect natural light, generating a choreography of reflections that adds depth and visual continuity. The island, with its customized ceramic countertop, rises like a monolith—durable yet elegant. Brass details harmonize matte and glossy black surfaces, creating a refined rhythm of light and texture.

Complementing this interpretation is a second composition where Aged Brass reveals its full materiality: a dramatic volume with a warm, luminous presence that becomes the absolute focal point of the space. The handcrafted metal sheets, subjected to an aging process, produce unique color variations, recreating a “lived-in” effect. Every surface comes alive with shifting reflections that change with the angle and intensity of light.

Functionality and ergonomics are as essential as aesthetics. The wine cellar, with optimized, seamlessly integrated shelving, combines practicality with display appeal. Concealed refrigerators and pull-out systems ensure intelligent storage while maintaining the project's visual clarity.
Completing the composition is the Aerius Wall Unit, an exceptionally lightweight solution that maximizes wall space. Using gravity-assisted opening, it allows for smooth and effortless access while remaining suspended like a true architectural element. Integrated LEDs gently illuminate the contents, while the semi-transparent glass enhances the sense of space.
“The theatrical effect of this Valcucine kitchen is truly unique: a project that perfectly combines visual impact with functional elegance,” comments the local Valcucine dealer, Valcucine Chicago | Mobili Möbel, who participated in the design.
