Care and maintenance of Pewter Stainless Steel surfaces
(Peltrox® by DMM)

Maintenance and best practices

The 3 essential rules for the care of your  Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®) worktop

Avoid acidic products, chlorine, bleach, ammonia, limescale removers, abrasives and rough sponges.

  • Clean: dampen a soft cloth with water and a neutral detergent, then wipe it over the entire surface.
  • Rinse: remove the detergent using only water.
  • Dry: use a soft cloth. Drying is essential to prevent slight discoloration caused by standing liquids.

What is Pewter Stainless Steel?

The Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®) finish represents a premium process that combines the quality of stainless steel with meticulous craftsmanship. It is an exclusive finish, developed and patented by DMM, designed to give the surface a warm, deep, and tactile aesthetic, inspired by traditional pewter but with the performance of modern metal.

The base material is AISI 304L stainless steel, a high-grade alloy containing chromium, nickel, and in some cases molybdenum. This composition ensures corrosion resistance, stability, and long-lasting durability, as well as complete hygienic safety, since the material is non-toxic and compliant with current regulations for food-contact materials. Thanks to these properties, AISI 304L Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®) finish is ideal for kitchen environments and furnishing applications subject to frequent or intensive use.

The Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®) finish is achieved through an electrochemical coloring process that modifies the surface of the stainless steel, giving it a warmer tone and a distinctive textured appearance. This eco-friendly and controlled treatment creates a uniform, stable surface rich in chromatic depth, while preserving the performance of AISI 304L stainless steel in terms of resistance, hygiene, and durability.

The combination of AISI 304L stainless steel quality and the peltratura process developed by DMM ensures durability, color stability, resistance to daily use, and suitability for both residential and professional environments. Over time, the finish retains its aesthetic and functional characteristics, requiring only simple, targeted care to preserve its tone, uniformity, and pleasant tactile feel.

In Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®) worktop, an additional vitrified coating (Glass-Lined Peltrox®) is also applie, a silicon-based layer just a few microns thick that further enhances surface resistance. This added protection makes the material particularly suitable for intensive use and improves its resistance to contact with acidic foods and potentially aggressive substances, while maintaining color stability and tactile quality over time.

Warnings

To preserve the appearance and performance of the Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®) finish over time, follow these recommended guidelines:

  • Try out any new cleaning products included in the sample pack you received with your plan.
  • Avoid using abrasive sponges or rough tools that may scratch the surface.
  • Do not leave acidic or saline substances in prolonged contact, as they may alter the finish.

Products to avoid

  • Products containing hydrochloric acid, bleach, or chlorine.
  • Acidic or limescale-removal cleaners.
  • Ammonia.
  • Abrasive pastes or products with microparticles.

The use of these substances may compromise the tone and uniformity of the surface, reducing the quality of the distinctive textured effect of Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®).

Resistance test of the Pewter Stainless Steel finish to various products

The resistance tests shown in the tables below illustrate the behavior of the Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®) and Glass Lined Peltrox® finishes when in contact with different everyday, professional, and food-related substances, allowing an evaluation of their resistance, stability, and suitability for use.

Useful information

1. Why is the use of acidic and/or abrasive cleaners discouraged?
These products remove the surface oxide layer of Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®), altering the tone and uniformity of the finish.

2. Are degreasers suitable for cleaning the surface?
Yes, but only if they are neutral.
It is best to avoid products containing acids or chlorine, as they may damage the finish.

3. What happens if I use abrasive pastes?
Abrasive pastes scratch the surface, compromising its appearance and making the damage clearly visible.

4. Are light stains defects in the surface finish?
No, they are not defects.
They may result from prolonged contact with aggressive substances.
In case of accidental contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water following the cleaning instructions.

5. What should be done in case of contact with unsuitable substances?
Rinse immediately with plenty of water, following the cleaning instructions.

6. Is it possible to restore stained or discolored surfaces?
Yes, through a new peltratura process carried out by our specialized team.
For service requests, please contact support.

7. Can hot pots be placed on a Pewter Stainless Steel (Peltrox®) worktop?
Yes. Peltrox® surfaces can withstand heat up to 120°C without risk of damage or compromising the vitrified layer.

8. Can I leave ferrous metal objects on the surface?
It is not recommended to leave ferrous metal objects (e.g. cast iron grates, scissors, tin cans, etc.) in contact with the surface for extended periods. In case of contact, especially when wet, they may oxidize and cause rust stains.
If contact occurs, promptly remove the objects and avoid water stagnation to preserve the surface’s uniform appearance.
